Title: Flowers From the Storm
Author: Laura Kinsale
Rating: 2 stars
I feel so conflicted about this book. I really wanted to like it but I often found myself getting annoyed with the story and I often found the actual writing difficult to read and understand.
Maddy would often help her father with his mathematics and thus she meets Christian, the Duke of Jervaulx. So, when the Duke suffers from ‘stroke’ like symptoms that makes him loose a lot of his speech and movements, Maddy ends up being someone that cares for him.
There were asylums, grasping relatives and something different than usually depicted in romance novels. But for me the romance wasn’t really there. I often found it quite difficult to like Maddy and with her being a Quaker, often found her views very narrowminded. Although I didn’t mind Christian, he was quite difficult to understand (I know there were reasons for it, but it made it difficult for me to read).
Overall, I was very disappointed in this book. I had read so many good reviews so my expectations were high. All I can say is that I didn’t like the book all that much.
