Book Review: Bane

Title: Bane

Author: L.J. Shen

Rating: 4.25 stars

I have been looking forward to Bane since reading Scandalous where he was first introduced. This was different than what I was expecting but L.J. Shen is as amazing as always.

Bane is your typical bad boy with a twist, he’s an asshole and owns the business people of Todos Santos. He doesn’t care for anything until fate makes sure he crosses paths with Jesse Carter. Bane sets up a deal with a wealthy oil-tycoon, in return for investment in his business he needs to befriend his step-daughter and get her to come out of her shell. What he didn’t expect was to be so drawn to his project, Jesse Carter.

Jesse has been through a lot in the past couple of years and has stopped interacting with the world besides necessity. Bane slowly works his way past her defenses and they grow close. Bane is able to relate to Jesse and a spark is ignited between them. But Bane becomes conflicted as part of the deal was no intimacy.

But there are secrets and twists that both of them knew nothing about and goes about changing their relationship. Jesse is such a strong character and doesn’t let her past define her. Bane is such a layered character although he is an asshole (L.J. Shen writes them really well) there was so much beyond the surface and was the perfect guy for Jesse.

This series has been great, asshole man who love their women. I am looking forward to the spin-off series as I can’t get enough of these characters.
